In the Folkwang double bass class, both the French bow and the German bow are taught.
Matthew McDonald (1ste prinipal bass Berliner Philharmoniker) regulary works with the class as Visiting Professor.
Ömer Faruk Dede (Dusseldorfer Symfoniker and East-Western Divan Orchestra) is appointed as Lehrbeauftragte and also works with the entire class.
As a preparation for entering in the Bachelor Education Program we offer young bassists (12-18) the opportunity to take part in our Junior College.
The Bachelor Education Program consists of eight semesters over four years.
The Master Programs for Orchestral and Professional Performance consists of an additional four semesters over two years.
Auditions for all programs take place annually at the end of May. The Master's Program and the Junior College hold additional auditions in January/February of each year.
Each year, the Folkwang University Double Bass Class organizes the Folkwang KontraBass Marathon. This is a buzzing Festival over several days including many performances with a highly diverse repertoire, master classes, world-premiers, studio for mini-bass players and exhibitions.

An Folkwang werden im Fach Kontrabass sowohl die deutsche, als auch die französische Bogenhaltung unterrichtet.
Auf die Zulassung zum Hauptfachstudium an der Folkwang Universität der Künste bereitet das Junior College vor und ist besonders geeignet für Schüler (12-18) von Musikschulen, die ins Fach wollen. Die Instrumentalausbildung im Fach Kontrabass dauert 8 Fachsemester und wird mit dem Bachelor of Music abgeschlossen. Weiterhin werden mit dem Master of Music in Orchesterspiel bzw. in Professional Performance Aufbaustudiengänge angeboten.
Die Eignungsprüfung für die Master Studiengänge und das Junior College finden in Januar und Mai statt. Die Eignungsprüfung für den Bachelor Studiengange in Mai.
